Superior Lithographicsrecently installed a fully automated KBA Rapida 162a 64-inch 6-color sheetfed press with UV coater. The Los Angeles-area printer specializes in litho labels, top sheets, and folding cartons.

"Our customers rarely inventory product," says Doug Rawson, Superior Graphic Packaging CEO and president. "We typically have one week's worth of backlog, yet we run 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Because everything we print ends up in a Big Box retailer, we need to consistently provide lead time of two or three days to meet our customers' needs. Our presses have to have quick makeready and high running speeds to handle the volume of work we are printing. We can makeready the press in 20 minutes, and we have seen run rates in excess of 12,000 sph."
